Millie & Biscuit

Wedges: Millie's Kitchen

Grandma Bea is cooking in Millie’s Kitchen! A wooden wedge holds the door open, loaves of bread wait on the board, and two wedge-shaped pieces of cheese sit on a plate.

Remember: A wedge is two inclined planes back to back: thick at one end and thin at the other. Push on the thick end, and the thin edge pushes things apart to the sides. Wedges cut, split and hold things in place. Knives, doorstops, nail tips, zippers and your front teeth are wedges. A sharper wedge cuts more easily.

Magic trick: Thin edge in, things push apart.

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of Millie’s Kitchen and find:

  • ๐Ÿšช Find the doorstop under the door. A wedge that holds the door in place.
  • ๐Ÿž Find the 3 loaves and the knife. The knife’s thin edge is a wedge that pushes the bread apart as it cuts.
  • ๐Ÿง€ Find the 2 pieces of cheese. Look: they’re wedge-shaped, thick at one end and thin at the other!
  • ๐Ÿฑ Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
