Screws: The Octopus Tea Party
Welcome to the Octopus Tea Party under the sea! Octavia twists open her jam jars, spiral seashells decorate the table, and teacups wait for tea.
Remember: A screw is an inclined plane wrapped around a post. The spiral ridge is the thread. Turning a screw moves it in or out and holds things tightly together. Jar lids, bolts, light bulb bases and twist-off bottle caps all use screws. Threads close together make a screw easier to turn, but it takes more turns.
Magic trick: Righty tighty, lefty loosey!
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Octopus Tea Party and find:
- ๐ซ Find the 4 jam jars. Each lid twists on and off: there’s a screw thread inside it.
- ๐ Find the 3 spiral seashells. Their spirals curl round and round, like the thread of a screw.
- โ Find the 2 rows of teacups in the middle of the table. 2 rows of 3: 2 ร 3 = 6 cups of tea.
- ๐ฑ Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
