Millie & Biscuit

Shapes in the Castle: Princess Ruby's Rainbow Castle

Princess Ruby’s Rainbow Castle is built from shapes! Its round towers are cylinders with cone roofs, its flags are triangles and its windows are rectangles.

Remember: Flat (2D) shapes like squares, triangles and circles you can draw on paper. Solid (3D) shapes like cubes, cylinders and cones you can hold. The flat faces of solid shapes are flat shapes: each face of a cube is a square, and the ends of a cylinder are circles.

Magic trick: Flat shapes you draw, solid shapes you hold. A square is drawn, a cube is held!

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of Princess Ruby’s Rainbow Castle and find:

  • ๐Ÿฐ Find the towers. There are 4. Each one is a cylinder with a cone roof.
  • ๐Ÿšฉ Find the triangle flags over the gate. There are 5, each with 3 sides: 5 ร— 3 = 15 sides.
  • ๐ŸชŸ Find the windows on the front wall. They are rectangles. There are 6, each with 4 right angles: 6 ร— 4 = 24 right angles.
  • ๐Ÿฑ Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
