Parallel and Perpendicular Lines: The Toy Train Park
At the Toy Train Park, a little train puffs along a straight track. Its two rails run side by side all the way and never meet: they are parallel lines.
Remember: Parallel lines run side by side, always the same distance apart, and never meet, like the two rails of a train track. Perpendicular lines meet or cross at a right angle, like the rungs and rails of a ladder.
Magic trick: The word parallel has two l’s standing side by side, just like parallel lines!
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Toy Train Park and find:
- 🚂 Find the toy train. It pulls 3 carriages along two rails that are parallel: they never meet.
- 🪜 Find the ladder by the treehouse. It has 5 rungs. Each rung crosses the rails at a square corner, so the rungs are perpendicular to the rails.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
