Lines of Symmetry: The Fairy Garden
In the Fairy Garden, every butterfly has two wings that match. Fold a butterfly down its middle and one wing lands exactly on the other: that fold is a line of symmetry.
Remember: A line of symmetry cuts a shape into two halves that match exactly, like a mirror. A heart has 1, a rectangle has 2, an equilateral triangle has 3, a square has 4, and a circle has endless lines of symmetry: every line through its middle works.
Magic trick: Imagine folding the shape on the line: if the two halves land exactly on top of each other, it’s a line of symmetry. Fold a rectangle from corner to corner and it won’t match!
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Fairy Garden and find:
- ๐ฆ Find the butterflies. There are 4. Imagine folding each one down its body: the two wings match, so that fold is a line of symmetry.
- ๐ Find the heart-shaped stepping stones. There are 3. A heart has 1 line of symmetry, straight down its middle.
- ๐ฑ Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
