A Fence for the Bunnies: Farmer Daisy's Pens
Farmer Daisy keeps her bunnies, lambs and ducks in cozy pens. Every pen needs a fence that goes all the way around it, so before she builds one she works out its perimeter.
Remember: The fence around a pen is its perimeter: add every side. A pen 6 m long and 4 m wide needs 6 + 4 + 6 + 4 = 20 m of fence. For a square pen, every side is the same, so add one side 4 times.
Magic trick: For a rectangle, add the long side and the short side, then double it: 6 + 4 = 10, and double 10 is 20.
