Sale and Sail, Plain and Plane: Mermaid Lagoon
Welcome to Mermaid Lagoon! Little boats with pink sails glide across the water, a tiny plane has landed with a splash, and Octavia the octopus has shells for sale at her stall on the beach.
Remember: A sail is the big cloth on a boat that catches the wind, and to sail is to go across water in a boat: “We sail across the lagoon.” A sale is when things are sold, often for less money: “Octavia has a shell sale.” A plane is a machine with wings that flies: “A little plane lands on the water.” Plain means simple, with nothing added: “a plain shell with no stripes.”
Magic trick: Sail has an i, like wind, because sails catch the wind. Plain ends in a, i, n, just like rain, and plane ends in e, for engine.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of Mermaid Lagoon and find:
- โต Find the 3 pink sails. Each little boat has one sail to catch the wind.
- ๐ฉ๏ธ Find the little plane resting on the water. It is a seaplane, so it can land on the lagoon.
- ๐ Find the 6 shells for sale at Octavia’s stall. Which one would you buy?
- ๐ฑ Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
