What to Do with the Remainder: The Sprinkle Bakery
At the Sprinkle Bakery, Chef Rosie packs her cupcakes in boxes of 4. The leftovers make her think: does she need one more box, are they left out, or can they be shared?
Remember: Read the story to see what the remainder means. Round up when everything must fit: 14 cupcakes in boxes of 4 need 4 boxes. Leave it off when you count full groups: 14 cupcakes fill only 3 full boxes. Share it when it can be cut: 3 pies for 2 friends is 1 1/2 pies each.
Magic trick: Ask: does every cupcake need a home? Then add one more box!
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Sprinkle Bakery and find:
- 🧁 Find the 3 full boxes of cupcakes and the 2 cupcakes on the plate. 14 cupcakes in boxes of 4: 14 ÷ 4 = 3 R 2. That’s 3 full boxes, and Chef Rosie needs 4 boxes to pack them all.
- 🥧 Find the 3 cherry pies. If 2 friends share the 3 pies equally, each gets 1 pie and half of the last one: 1 1/2 pies each.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
