Millie & Biscuit

The Remainder Is Smaller: The Bunny Farm Market

It’s market day at the Bunny Farm Market, and Farmer Daisy ties her carrots in bunches of 5. The carrots that can’t make a whole bunch are the remainder, and there are always fewer than 5 of them.

Remember: The remainder is always smaller than the number you divide by. Dividing by 5, the remainder can only be 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4. If 5 or more are left, you can make one more group!

Magic trick: Check your leftovers: if the remainder is as big as the number you divide by, or bigger, make another group!

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of the Bunny Farm Market and find:

  • 🥕 Find the 4 bunches of carrots and the 3 loose carrots. If each bunch has 5 carrots, there are 23 carrots: 23 ÷ 5 = 4 R 3. 3 is smaller than 5, so no more bunches!
  • 🥚 Find the 3 baskets of eggs and the 2 eggs in the blue bowl. 14 eggs in baskets of 4 fill 3 baskets with 2 left over: 14 ÷ 4 = 3 R 2.
  • 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
