Dividing Tens and Hundreds: Millie's Craft Room
Back in Millie’s Craft Room, craft sticks come in bundles of 10 and beads in jars of 100. Sharing whole bundles and whole jars makes big divisions easy.
Remember: To work out 80 ÷ 4, think in tens: 8 tens ÷ 4 = 2 tens, which is 20. For 600 ÷ 3, think in hundreds: 6 hundreds ÷ 3 = 2 hundreds, which is 200.
Magic trick: Hide the zeros, divide the small fact, then bring the zeros back: 600 ÷ 3 → 6 ÷ 3 = 2 → 200.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of Millie’s Craft Room and find:
- 🎀 Find the 4 cups of craft sticks. If each bundle has 10 sticks, there are 8 bundles = 80 sticks. Shared into 4 cups: 80 ÷ 4 = 20 sticks in each cup.
- 🫙 Find the 3 shelves of bead jars. If each jar holds 100 beads, there are 6 jars = 600 beads. Shared onto 3 shelves: 600 ÷ 3 = 200 beads on each shelf.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
