Change from $5: The Lunchtime Line
It’s lunchtime, and a line of hungry customers is waiting at the Lemonade Stand! When a customer pays with a $5 bill and the price is less, the girls give back the extra money. That money is called the change.
Remember: Change = the money paid โ the price. A lemon bar costs $3.50 and Coach Nora pays $5.00, so her change is $5.00 โ $3.50 = $1.50.
Magic trick: Count up like a shopkeeper: start at the price and count up to $5.00. From $3.50, $0.50 makes $4.00 and $1.00 more makes $5.00, so the change is $1.50.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Lunchtime Line and find:
- ๐ง Find the line of customers. There are 3 customers: Grandma Bea, Coach Nora and Farmer Daisy, all ready to pay.
- ๐ช Find the tray of cookies. The tray holds 2 rows of 4 = 8 cookies, and Mia is serving one more with her tongs. If a cookie costs $0.75 and you pay $5.00, your change is $4.25.
- ๐ซ Find the pitchers of lemonade. Count them: 4 pitchers of cold lemonade.
- ๐ฑ Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
