Millie & Biscuit

Melting and Freezing: The Ice Pop Party

It’s the hottest day of summer, and Zoe and Mia are throwing an Ice Pop Party in the garden! There are ice pops to eat, lemonade to freeze, and one ice pop that has fallen on the grass and is melting away.

Remember: Melting is a solid turning into a liquid when it gets warmer. Freezing is a liquid turning into a solid when it gets colder. Water freezes at 0 ยฐC, which is 32 ยฐF. Ice floats, and water gets a little bigger when it freezes.

Magic trick: Melting Makes it runny; Freezing makes it Firm.

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of the Ice Pop Party and find:

  • ๐Ÿญ Find the 6 ice pops in the stand. They were liquid juice until the freezer made them freeze into solids.
  • ๐Ÿ‹ Find the 3 pitchers of lemonade. Lemonade is a liquid. Put it in the freezer and it will freeze too!
  • ๐Ÿ’ง Find the ice pop melting on the grass. The hot day is warming it, so it is melting into a liquid puddle.
  • ๐Ÿฑ Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
