Millie & Biscuit

Solid, Liquid and Gas: Millie's Kitchen

It’s a chilly morning in Millie’s Kitchen, and Grandma Bea is warming water for hot cocoa! Look closely and you will find water in all its forms: hard ice cubes, runny water in glasses, and a kettle letting off water as a gas.

Remember: Water comes in 3 states. A solid (ice) keeps its own shape. A liquid (water) flows and takes the shape of its container. A gas (water vapor) spreads out to fill any space, and you cannot see it. Heating and cooling change water from one state to another, but it is still water.

Magic trick: Solids Stay in shape, Liquids Look like their cup, and Gases Go everywhere.

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of Millie’s Kitchen and find:

  • ๐ŸงŠ Find the 6 ice cubes in the tray. Ice is a solid: each cube keeps its own shape.
  • ๐Ÿฅ› Find the 3 glasses of water. Each one is a different shape, and the water fits each glass. That is what a liquid does!
  • ๐ŸŽˆ Find the 4 balloons. They are full of air, and air is a gas.
  • ๐Ÿฑ Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
