Won't, Wasn't and Couldn't: Rainbow Castle
Oh no, the drawbridge at Rainbow Castle is stuck! Princess Ruby’s flags flutter on the towers, swans glide in the moat, and golden crowns wait on cushions.
Remember: won’t is the short form of will not: “The drawbridge won’t open!” It is the odd one out, because it does not look like will at all. More not-words: was not → wasn’t, were not → weren’t, could not → couldn’t, should not → shouldn’t, have not → haven’t.
Magic trick: Say it like a grumpy giant: “I will not, I won’t!” Both start with w, and both mean the same thing.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of Rainbow Castle and find:
- 🚩 Find the 4 flags flying from the tops of the towers. The wind won’t stop waving them: won’t is a short way to say will not.
- 🦢 Find the 2 swans in the moat. They weren’t worried about the stuck drawbridge.
- 👑 Find the 3 golden crowns on cushions. Princess Ruby couldn’t choose just one!
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
