Wind and Tear: The Fairy Garden
A breezy day in the Fairy Garden! The wind carries the fairies’ kites high over the flowers, and Lily turns the little keys to wind up her toy bunnies.
Remember: wind and tear are each spelled the same but said two ways. Wind that rhymes with pinned is moving air that blows: “The wind lifts the kites.” Wind that rhymes with kind is turning something round and round: “Wind up the toy bunny.” A tear that rhymes with ear is a drop of water from your eye: “A happy tear rolls down Zoe’s cheek.” To tear (rhymes with hair) is to rip: “Be careful not to tear the paper.”
Magic trick: Wind up, round and round: wind rhymes with kind. A tear runs down from near your ear (rhymes with ear). Tear the paper and you rip it (rhymes with hair).
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Fairy Garden and find:
- 🪁 Find the 3 kites blowing in the wind. This wind is moving air (rhymes with pinned).
- 🐰 Find the 2 toy bunnies with keys to wind up. This wind is turning a key round and round (rhymes with kind).
- 🌷 Find the 5 tulips along the path. They lean over in the wind too.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
