How Seeds Travel: The Windy Hill
Whoosh! On the Windy Hill, kites fly high, dandelion puffs blow their seeds away, and a busy squirrel is burying acorns.
Remember: Seeds travel away from their parent plant so they get their own room, light and water. They can blow in the wind (dandelions, maple wings), hitch a ride on animals (burrs on fur, berries eaten by birds, acorns buried by squirrels), float on water (coconuts) or pop out of a dry pod.
Magic trick: Seeds go by wind, animals, water and pop: look at a seed’s shape to guess its ride. Fluff and wings fly, hooks stick, juicy fruit gets eaten.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Windy Hill and find:
- ๐ช Find the 3 kites. The same wind that lifts the kites carries dandelion seeds away.
- ๐ฌ๏ธ Find the 4 dandelion puffs. Each seed has a tiny fluffy parachute.
- ๐ฟ๏ธ Find the squirrel hugging an acorn, and the 6 acorns lined up on the grass. Any acorn the squirrel forgets can grow into a new oak tree!
- ๐ฑ Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
