Thousands: The Star Tower

Up in the Star Tower, Professor Luna Moon has cut out thousands of paper stars for the Starlight Festival! She packs them in chests of 1,000, jars of 100 and bags of 10. Big numbers just have one more place: the thousands.

Remember: 10 hundreds make 1 thousand. In 3,482, the 3 is worth 3,000, the 4 is worth 400, the 8 is worth 80 and the 2 is worth 2. The comma comes right after the thousands digit.

Magic trick: Each place is worth 10 of the place on its right: 10 ones make a ten, 10 tens make a hundred, 10 hundreds make a thousand.

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of the Star Tower and find:

  • 🧰 Find the 2 treasure chests. Each chest holds 1,000 paper stars, so that’s 2,000 stars: 2 thousands.
  • 🫙 Find the 5 jars. Each jar holds 100 stars: 500 stars.
  • 👝 Find the 3 little bags. Each bag holds 10 stars: 30 stars. All together: 2,000 + 500 + 30 = 2,530 stars!
  • 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
