Ones, Tens and Hundreds: Millie's Bead Jars

Welcome to Millie’s craft room! Millie keeps her beads in jars of 100, bags of 10 and a little row of loose beads. Count the jars, the bags and the loose beads, and you can count hundreds of beads in a flash.

Remember: Every digit has a place. In 346, the 3 is in the hundreds place (3 jars = 300), the 4 is in the tens place (4 bags = 40) and the 6 is in the ones place (6 loose beads). 300 + 40 + 6 = 346.

Magic trick: Read the places from right to left like a staircase: ones, tens, hundreds. Each step up is worth 10 times more.

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of Millie’s craft room and find:

  • 🫙 Find the 3 big jars of beads. If each jar holds 100 beads, that’s 300 beads: 3 hundreds.
  • 👝 Find the 4 little bags. If each bag holds 10 beads, 4 bags are 40 beads: 4 tens.
  • 🔵 Find the 6 loose beads. That’s 6 ones. All together: 300 + 40 + 6 = 346 beads!
  • 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
