Reading and Writing Big Numbers: The Sticker Shop
At the Sticker Shop, Zoe and Mia sell stickers in big boxes of 1,000 and sheets of 10. Every order is written in words and in digits, so nobody gets mixed up!
Remember: Read a big number in two parts: the thousands, then the rest. 2,040 is “two thousand forty”. When a place is empty, write a 0 to hold it: two thousand forty has no hundreds, so the hundreds place gets a 0.
Magic trick: Draw four little boxes for thousands, hundreds, tens and ones, then fill each box. An empty box gets a 0, and the comma goes after the thousands box.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Sticker Shop and find:
- 🎁 Find the 2 big boxes. Each box holds 1,000 stickers: 2 thousands.
- 🧺 Find the empty basket. That’s where the stacks of 100 go, and there are none today: 0 hundreds.
- 💖 Find the 4 sticker sheets on the counter. Each sheet has 10 stickers: 4 tens. So the order is 2 thousands, 0 hundreds, 4 tens, 0 ones: 2,040, “two thousand forty”.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
