Comparing Numbers: Lily's Tulip Garden
In Lily’s Tulip Garden, the tulip bulbs come in big sacks of 100 and little bags of 10. Lily and Farmer Daisy want to know which cart holds more, so they compare, place by place.
Remember: To compare two numbers, first count the digits: more digits means a bigger number. Same number of digits? Compare from the left: thousands, then hundreds, then tens, then ones. 300 > 260 means 300 is greater; 260 < 300 means 260 is less.
Magic trick: The < and > signs are hungry crocodiles: the open mouth always eats the bigger number.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of Lily’s Tulip Garden and find:
- ๐ฉท Find the pink cart. 3 sacks of 100 bulbs: 300 bulbs.
- ๐ Find the blue cart. 2 sacks of 100 and 6 bags of 10: 260 bulbs. Compare the hundreds first: 3 hundreds beat 2 hundreds, so 300 > 260.
- ๐ Find the hungry crocodile. Its mouth is open toward the pink cart, because it always eats the bigger number!
- ๐ฑ Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
