The Missing Side: The Ribbon Borders
At the Craft Fair, Mia, Zoe and Lily sew ribbon borders around cushions, cards and flags. They know how long each ribbon is, so the ribbon is the perimeter. Can you work out the side they forgot to measure?
Remember: If you know the perimeter, take away the sides you know and what’s left is the missing side. For a rectangle, the two long sides match and the two short sides match: 20 cm around and 6 cm long, so 20 โ 6 โ 6 = 8, shared by the 2 short sides: 4 cm each.
Magic trick: For a square, all 4 sides are equal, so just share the perimeter into 4: a 20 cm border means 20 รท 4 = 5 cm sides.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Craft Fair and find:
- ๐ Find the 4 square cushions. Each has 4 equal sides, so one side is the ribbon รท 4.
- ๐ฉ Find the 6 triangle flags. Each flag has 3 sides: 6 ร 3 = 18 sides with ribbon.
- ๐ Find the 3 greeting cards. Each is a rectangle: 2 long sides and 2 short sides.
- ๐ฑ Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
