Stair and Stare, Knew and New: The Star Tower
Welcome to the Star Tower on a starry night! Six stone stairs lead up to the door, three friends lie on a blanket to stare at the stars, and Professor Luna Moon is unpacking a shiny new telescope.
Remember: A stair is one step in a staircase: “Biscuit sits on the top stair.” To stare is to look at something for a long time: “Millie loves to stare at the stars.” Knew is know in the past: “Zoe knew the answer yesterday.” New means just made, never used, or not old: “Professor Luna Moon has a new telescope.”
Magic trick: Stare has the word star inside it: you stare at the stars! Knew starts with a silent k, just like know, because knew is know in the past.
