Millilitres: The Cupcake Batter
Millie and Grandma Bea are making cupcakes! They measure the milk and oil in a measuring jug, and the jug counts in millilitres (ml). A millilitre is a tiny amount: a teaspoon of vanilla is only about 5 ml.
Remember: Small amounts of liquid are measured in millilitres, written ml. Add and take away ml just like any numbers, and keep the ml on your answer: 200 ml + 100 ml = 300 ml.
Magic trick: Measuring jugs go up in big friendly jumps. Count by 50s: 50, 100, 150, 200… or by 100s: 100, 200, 300…
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Cupcake Batter and find:
- 🧁 Find the cupcake tin. It holds 2 rows of 3: 6 cupcakes. If each one takes 50 ml of batter, that’s 6 × 50 = 300 ml.
- 🥣 Find the mixing bowls. There are 3 bowls, each with its own whisk.
- 🥛 Find the measuring jugs. There are 2 jugs. Jugs measure liquids in ml.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
