Litres and Millilitres: Hot Chocolate Night

It’s a chilly evening and the stars are out. Grandma Bea is warming a big pot of hot chocolate for Millie and her friends! Big amounts of liquid are measured in litres (L).

Remember: 1 L = 1000 ml. A mug holds about 250 ml, so 4 mugs of 250 ml fill 1 L. To change litres to millilitres, multiply by 1000: 3 L = 3000 ml.

Magic trick: Four 250s make 1000: 250, 500, 750, 1000. Four mugs is one litre!

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of Hot Chocolate Night and find:

  • ☕ Find the tray of mugs. There are 4 mugs. If each holds 250 ml, 4 mugs make 1000 ml, which is 1 L!
  • 🥛 Find the milk cartons. There are 2 cartons. If each holds 1 L, that’s 2 L, or 2000 ml.
  • 🍪 Find the plate of cookies. 2 rows of 3: 6 cookies to go with the hot chocolate.
  • 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
