Spoons and Cups: The Pancake Breakfast

It’s Saturday morning in Millie’s Kitchen, and Grandma Bea is making her famous pancakes! Bakers measure with cups for big amounts like flour and milk, and with tablespoons (tbsp) and teaspoons (tsp) for small amounts like sugar and vanilla.

Remember: A tablespoon is bigger than a teaspoon: 3 teaspoons fill 1 tablespoon. So 2 tbsp is the same as 6 tsp.

Magic trick: A teaspoon is small enough to stir your tea. A tablespoon is the big spoon you eat with at the table.

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of the Pancake Breakfast and find:

  • 🥄 Find the spoon rack. It holds 3 teaspoons and 1 tablespoon. 3 teaspoons fill 1 tablespoon!
  • 🥚 Find the egg carton. 2 rows of 3 eggs: 2 × 3 = 6 eggs.
  • 🥞 Find the plates of pancakes. There are 4 plates, one for each pancake lover at the table.
  • 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
