Kilograms and Grams: The Flour Bags
Grandma Bea’s pantry is full of big bags of flour and sugar, and Biscuit loves to curl up next to them! Heavy things are measured in kilograms (kg).
Remember: 1 kg = 1000 g. So 2 kg = 2000 g, and half a kilogram is 500 g. To change grams to kilograms, count the thousands: 5000 g = 5 kg.
Magic trick: Kilo means a thousand: 1 kilogram is 1000 grams, just like 1 kilometre is 1000 metres.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Flour Bags and find:
- 🌾 Find the flour bags. There are 3 bags. If each one weighs 1 kg, they weigh 3 kg, which is 3000 g.
- 🍬 Find the sugar bags. There are 2 bags of sugar on the middle shelf.
- 🍓 Find the jam jars Grandma Bea is reaching for. Count the jars in her row: there are 5.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
