Double the Recipe: The Birthday Cake for 16

Millie’s birthday party has 16 guests, but Grandma Bea’s cake recipe only serves 8. Time to double the recipe and bake two cakes!

Remember: To double a recipe, double every ingredient: 3 eggs → 6 eggs, 250 ml of milk → 500 ml, 2 cups of flour → 4 cups. Keep the same unit.

Magic trick: Doubling is adding a number to itself: 150 + 150 = 300.

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of the Birthday Cake for 16 and find:

  • 🎂 Find the cake pans. There are 2 pans: one recipe for each cake, so the recipe is doubled.
  • 🥚 Find the bowl of eggs. 2 rows of 3: 6 eggs. The recipe needs 3, so doubled it needs 2 × 3 = 6.
  • 🎉 Find the party hats. 2 rows of 4: 8 hats. The other 8 guests are bringing their own!
  • 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
