Millie & Biscuit

Half the Recipe: The Big Bake Sale

It’s the Big Bake Sale at Millie’s school! Millie, Grandma Bea and Millie’s friends bake brownies, cookies and muffins, and sometimes they only need half a recipe. These are challenge problems: most take two steps.

Remember: To halve a recipe, share every ingredient into 2 equal parts: 4 eggs → 2 eggs, 300 ml → 150 ml. For two-step problems, do one step, then use that answer in the next step.

Magic trick: Halve big numbers in pieces: half of 300 is half of 200 plus half of 100, so 100 + 50 = 150.

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of the Big Bake Sale and find:

  • 🍪 Find the trays of cookies. 3 trays of 6 cookies: 3 × 6 = 18 cookies for the sale.
  • 🍋 Find the lemonade jugs. There are 2 jugs of pink lemonade.
  • 🥤 Find the paper cups. 2 rows of 4: 8 cups. If each cup holds 250 ml, 8 cups need 2 L of lemonade!
  • 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
