Two-Step Problems: The Big Lemonade Day
It’s the Big Lemonade Day, the busiest day of the summer! The line goes all the way down the street. Big-day problems take two steps: first find a total, then use it to find the answer.
Remember: Read the question twice and plan your steps. Step 1: find what you need first (like the total price). Step 2: use it (like taking it away from $10.00 to find the change).
Magic trick: After step 1, ask yourself: “Is this the answer to the question, or only part of the way there?”
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Big Lemonade Day and find:
- ๐ง Find the long line. Count the customers: 5 customers are waiting for lemonade!
- ๐ฅค Find the cups on the counter. 2 rows of 5 = 10 cups on the counter, and Mia is handing out one more. At $0.50 a cup, 10 cups make $5.00.
- ๐ Find the trays of lemon bars. 2 trays of 4 = 8 lemon bars for the big day. At $1.25 each, 3 lemon bars cost $3.75.
- ๐ฑ Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
