Adding Prices: The Lemonade Stand
Welcome to the Lemonade Stand! Millie, Zoe and Mia sell cups of cold lemonade, cookies and lemon bars on a sunny street corner. When a customer buys two or three things, we add the prices to find the total.
Remember: Line up the dollars with the dollars and the cents with the cents. Add the cents first: 100 cents make $1.00, so $0.75 + $0.50 = $1.25.
Magic trick: Say prices in cents in your head: $0.50 + $0.25 is “50 cents and 25 cents”, which is 75 cents, or $0.75.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Lemonade Stand and find:
- ๐ฅค Find the cups of lemonade. 2 rows of 3 = 6 cups. If a cup costs $0.50, two cups cost $0.50 + $0.50 = $1.00.
- ๐ช Find the plate of cookies. There are 4 cookies. A cup of lemonade at $0.50 and a cookie at $0.25 cost $0.75 together.
- ๐ Find the crate of lemons. Count them: 5 lemons, ready to squeeze!
- ๐ฑ Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
