Line Plots: The Fairy Garden

In the Fairy Garden, Hana measures pea pods and seedlings and puts each one on a line plot: an X above the number line for every pod. On the grass, the fairies made their own line plot out of stacks of pebbles!

Remember: A line plot puts an X above a number line for each thing measured. The number of Xs above a number tells how many things have that size.

Magic trick: The numbers on the line are the sizes; the Xs are the things. Count Xs to answer “how many”, and read the line to answer “how long”.

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of the Fairy Garden and find:

  • 🪨 Find the pebble line plot. Each pebble is like an X. The tallest stack has 4 pebbles, so most things have that size.
  • 🔢 Find all the pebbles. Count every stack: 2 + 4 + 3 + 1 = 10 pebbles, so 10 things were measured.
  • 🍄 Find the toadstools. Count them: 4 toadstools.
  • 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
