Bar Graphs: Coach Nora's Field Day
It’s Field Day! Coach Nora asked everyone which race they liked best and built a giant bar graph on the grass out of towers of foam blocks. The tallest tower got the most votes!
Remember: On a bar graph, the longer the bar, the more it shows. Read where the top of the bar lines up with the scale, the numbers up the side. The scale can count by 1s, 2s, 5s or 10s.
Magic trick: Slide your finger straight across from the top of the bar to the scale. If it stops halfway between two lines, the number is halfway too!
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of Coach Nora’s Field Day and find:
- 📊 Find the block bar graph. The blue tower is the tallest, with 5 blocks. The yellow one is the shortest, with 2 blocks.
- 🟥 Find the red tower. It has 3 blocks. The blue tower has 5, so blue has 2 more than red.
- 🔶 Find the traffic cones. Count them: 5 cones.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
