Collecting Data: The Sprinkle Bakery Survey

Chef Rosie wants to know which cupcake her customers like best, so she does a survey at the Sprinkle Bakery: she asks each customer one question, and each customer gives one answer.

Remember: A survey collects data by asking people a question. A good survey question has clear choices (“Which cupcake do you like best: pink, chocolate or vanilla?”). If everyone answers once, the votes add up to the number of people asked.

Magic trick: Check your survey: add up all the votes. If the total isn’t the number of people you asked, someone was missed or counted twice!

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of the Sprinkle Bakery and find:

  • 🧁 Find the cupcake rows. Like a graph: 5 pink, 3 chocolate and 2 vanilla cupcakes. Pink is the favourite!
  • 💗 Find the customers voting. 4 customers, each holding up 1 heart: one vote each, so there are 4 votes.
  • 🎂 Find the cake stands. Count them: 3 cakes.
  • 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
