Unit Fractions: The Pizza Party
It’s a Pizza Party! Every pizza is cut into equal slices, and one slice of a pizza is a unit fraction: a fraction with 1 on top, like 1/2, 1/4 or 1/8.
Remember: The more equal slices a pizza is cut into, the smaller each slice gets. So 1/2 is bigger than 1/4, and 1/4 is bigger than 1/8.
Magic trick: Imagine sharing one pizza with more and more friends: the more people, the smaller everyone’s slice.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Pizza Party and find:
- 🍕 Find the pizza cut into 2 halves. Each slice is 1/2 of that pizza.
- 🍕 Find the pizza cut into 4 quarters. Each slice is 1/4, and 4 quarters make the whole pizza.
- 🍕 Find the pizza cut into 8 slices. Each slice is 1/8. Can you see that 1/8 is the smallest slice of the three?
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
