Same Top Number: The Fairy Garden Beds
In the Fairy Garden, three garden plots are all the same size. One is split into 2 flower beds, one into 4, and one into 8. Which flower bed is the biggest?
Remember: Same top number: the smaller bottom number is the bigger fraction, because the whole is cut into fewer, bigger pieces. So 1/2 > 1/4 > 1/8, and 3/4 > 3/8.
Magic trick: A bigger bottom number means you cut the whole into MORE pieces, and more pieces means SMALLER pieces.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Fairy Garden and find:
- π· Find the plot with 2 beds. Its tulip bed is 1/2 of the plot.
- π· Find the plot with 4 beds. Its tulip bed is 1/4 of the plot.
- π· Find the plot with 8 beds. Its tulip bed is 1/8. Look how much smaller it is: 1/2 > 1/4 > 1/8.
- π± Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
