Threw and Through, Break and Brake: Sports Day
Welcome to Sports Day, with Coach Nora and her whistle! A boy crawls through a long play tunnel, Zoe threw a ball through a big hoop, and two bikes wait by the fence with their brakes ready. After the races, everyone gets a juice break.
Remember: Threw is throw in the past: “Zoe threw the ball.” Through means in one side and out the other: “Crawl through the tunnel.” To break is to crack into pieces, and a break is also a little rest: “Time for a break!” A brake is the part of a bike or car that makes it stop: “Squeeze the brake!”
Magic trick: Threw ends in ew, like grew and flew: things that already happened. Through has ou, like out: you go in and come out the other side. A brake and a bike both end in ke. Break has ea, like steak.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of Sports Day and find:
- 🏀 Find Zoe, who threw a ball through the big hoop. In one side and out the other!
- 🧒 Find the boy crawling through the long tunnel. He is coming out the other end.
- 🚲 Find the 2 bikes by the fence. Squeeze the brake to stop!
- 🔶 Find the 5 orange cones in a row. Run around them, then take a break.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
