Dividing by 7: Rainbow Castle
High in the clouds sits Rainbow Castle, where Princess Ruby counts in sevens! A rainbow has 7 colors, a week has 7 days and every kite tail has 7 bows, so the castle shares things into sevens.
Remember: every division fact is a times table fact backwards.
- 14 ÷ 7 = 2 because 2 × 7 = 14
- 28 ÷ 7 = 4 because 4 × 7 = 28
- 49 ÷ 7 = 7 because 7 × 7 = 49
- 56 ÷ 7 = 8 because 8 × 7 = 56
Magic trick: Think multiplication: 56 ÷ 7 asks 7 × what = 56? Remember the rhyme 5, 6, 7, 8 → 56 = 7 × 8, so 56 ÷ 7 = 8. Days ÷ 7 tells you how many weeks.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of Rainbow Castle and find:
- 🌈 Find the 2 rainbows. There are 14 stripes and every rainbow has 7 colors, so 14 ÷ 7 = 2 rainbows.
- 🪁 Find the 3 kites. 21 bows with 7 on each tail: 21 ÷ 7 = 3 kites.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
