Dividing by 6: Sprinkle Bakery
Smell that? It’s the Sprinkle Bakery again, where Chef Rosie bakes in sixes! Trays hold 6 cupcakes and boxes hold 6 macarons, so today she shares her treats out six at a time.
Remember: every division fact is a times table fact backwards.
- 18 ÷ 6 = 3 because 3 × 6 = 18
- 30 ÷ 6 = 5 because 5 × 6 = 30
- 42 ÷ 6 = 7 because 7 × 6 = 42
- 48 ÷ 6 = 8 because 8 × 6 = 48
Magic trick: Think multiplication: 42 ÷ 6 asks 6 × what = 42? It’s 7, because 6 × 7 = 42.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Sprinkle Bakery and find:
- 🧁 Find Chef Rosie’s 3 trays of cupcakes. There are 18 cupcakes with 6 on each tray, so 18 ÷ 6 = 3 trays.
- 🎁 Find the 2 boxes of macarons. 12 macarons with 6 in each box: 12 ÷ 6 = 2 boxes.
- 🐞 Find the 2 ladybugs. 12 legs with 6 on each ladybug: 12 ÷ 6 = 2 ladybugs.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
