Dividing by 5: Mermaid Lagoon
Splash back into Mermaid Lagoon, where things come in fives! Starfish have 5 arms and sea flowers have 5 petals, so the mermaids share their shells and pearls into fives.
Remember: every division fact is a times table fact backwards.
- 15 ÷ 5 = 3 because 3 × 5 = 15
- 30 ÷ 5 = 6 because 6 × 5 = 30
- 40 ÷ 5 = 8 because 8 × 5 = 40
- 45 ÷ 5 = 9 because 9 × 5 = 45
Magic trick: Think multiplication: 35 ÷ 5 asks 5 × what = 35? Or double it, then take off the 0: double 35 is 70, so 35 ÷ 5 = 7.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of Mermaid Lagoon and find:
