Dividing by 2: Fairy Garden
Tiptoe back into the Fairy Garden, where things come in twos! Fairies have 2 wings, bunnies have 2 ears and cherries grow 2 on a stem, so here we share things into pairs and halves.
Remember: every division fact is a times table fact backwards.
- 8 ÷ 2 = 4 because 4 × 2 = 8
- 12 ÷ 2 = 6 because 6 × 2 = 12
- 18 ÷ 2 = 9 because 9 × 2 = 18
Magic trick: Think multiplication: 14 ÷ 2 asks 2 × what = 14? Dividing by 2 is halving: half of 14 is 7.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Fairy Garden and find:
- 🧚 Find the 4 fairies. There are 8 wings and every fairy has 2, so 8 ÷ 2 = 4 fairies.
- 🐰 Find the 3 bunnies. 6 long ears with 2 on each bunny: 6 ÷ 2 = 3 bunnies.
- 🍒 Find the 6 pairs of cherries hanging from the tree. 12 cherries with 2 on each stem: 12 ÷ 2 = 6 stems.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
