Dividing by 1: Unicorn Meadow
Welcome back to Unicorn Meadow, where everything comes one at a time! Every unicorn has 1 horn, every fairy princess wears 1 crown and every snail carries 1 shell, so sharing here is extra easy.
Remember: every division fact is a times table fact backwards.
- 5 ÷ 1 = 5 because 5 × 1 = 5
- 7 ÷ 1 = 7 because 7 × 1 = 7
- 12 ÷ 1 = 12 because 12 × 1 = 12
Magic trick: Think multiplication: 9 ÷ 1 asks 1 × what = 9? The answer is 9. Dividing by 1 never changes a number, and a number divided by itself is always 1 (9 ÷ 9 = 1).
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of Unicorn Meadow and find:
- 🦄 Find the 5 unicorns. There are 5 horns and each unicorn has 1, so 5 ÷ 1 = 5 unicorns.
- 👑 Find the 3 fairy princesses. 3 crowns with 1 for each princess: 3 ÷ 1 = 3 princesses.
- 🐌 Find the 4 snails. 4 shells with 1 on each snail: 4 ÷ 1 = 4 snails.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
