Dividing by 11: Soccer Stars Cup
It’s game day again at the Soccer Stars Cup, where things come in elevens! A soccer team has 11 players and every row of the bleachers seats 11 fans, so Coach Nora shares everything eleven ways.
Remember: every division fact is a times table fact backwards.
- 33 ÷ 11 = 3 because 3 × 11 = 33
- 77 ÷ 11 = 7 because 7 × 11 = 77
- 110 ÷ 11 = 10 because 10 × 11 = 110
- 132 ÷ 11 = 12 because 12 × 11 = 132
Magic trick: Think multiplication: 66 ÷ 11 asks 11 × what = 66? For 11 to 99, a number with a double digit divided by 11 is just that digit: 66 ÷ 11 = 6. Then remember 110 ÷ 11 = 10, 121 ÷ 11 = 11 and 132 ÷ 11 = 12.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Soccer Stars Cup and find:
- ⚽ Find the 2 teams posing for their team photos. Count one team: 6 girls standing at the back and 5 kneeling in front makes 11 players. 22 players ÷ 11 = 2 teams.
- 🏆 Find the trophy. Which team do you think will win it?
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
