Dividing by 10: Lucky Rainbow Hill
Welcome back to Lucky Rainbow Hill, where things come in tens! The leprechaun keeps 10 gold coins in a pot and the tooth fairy pays $10 a tooth, so here we share things into tens.
Remember: every division fact is a times table fact backwards.
- 30 ÷ 10 = 3 because 3 × 10 = 30
- 60 ÷ 10 = 6 because 6 × 10 = 60
- 90 ÷ 10 = 9 because 9 × 10 = 90
- 120 ÷ 10 = 12 because 12 × 10 = 120
Magic trick: Think multiplication: 80 ÷ 10 asks 10 × what = 80? To divide a number that ends in 0 by 10, just take the 0 off the end: 80 ÷ 10 = 8.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of Lucky Rainbow Hill and find:
- 🪙 Find the 2 pots of gold, one at each end of the rainbow. If the leprechaun has 20 coins with 10 in each pot, then 20 ÷ 10 = 2 pots.
- 🌷 Find the 3 pots of tulips by the cottage door. If there are 30 tulips with 10 in each pot, then 30 ÷ 10 = 3 pots.
- 🧚 Find the tooth fairy. She pays $10 for every tooth, so $30 ÷ $10 = 3 teeth. Can you find the leprechaun too?
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
