Dividing by 12: Bunny Farm Market
Hop back to the Bunny Farm Market, where everything comes by the dozen (a dozen is 12)! Farmer Daisy packs 12 eggs in a carton and 12 donuts in a box, so here we share things into dozens.
Remember: every division fact is a times table fact backwards.
- 36 ÷ 12 = 3 because 3 × 12 = 36
- 60 ÷ 12 = 5 because 5 × 12 = 60
- 84 ÷ 12 = 7 because 7 × 12 = 84
- 144 ÷ 12 = 12 because 12 × 12 = 144
Magic trick: Think multiplication: 96 ÷ 12 asks 12 × what = 96? Count in dozens: 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, 96 is 8 dozens, so 96 ÷ 12 = 8. And months ÷ 12 tells you how many years.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Bunny Farm Market and find:
- 🥚 Find the 3 egg cartons. There are 36 eggs with 12 in each carton, so 36 ÷ 12 = 3 cartons.
- 🍩 Find the 2 boxes of donuts. 24 donuts with 12 in each box: 24 ÷ 12 = 2 boxes.
- 🐰 Find Farmer Daisy the bunny. She packs every egg carton with a dozen eggs!
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
