Tenths and Hundredths Together: The Sprinkle Bakery
At the Sprinkle Bakery, Chef Rosie cuts her big sheet cakes into 10 strips or into 100 little squares. Half a cake is still half a cake, however you cut it!
Remember: 5 tenths = 50 hundredths, so 0.5 = 0.50. One tenth is the same as ten hundredths: 1/10 = 10/100. A zero on the end of a decimal doesn’t change how much it is.
Magic trick: To turn tenths into hundredths, put a zero on the end: 0.3 = 0.30, just like $0.30 is 30 cents.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Sprinkle Bakery and find:
- 🍩 Find the tray of 10 donuts. 5 have pink icing: 5/10 = 0.5. That’s the same as 50/100 = 0.50: half of the donuts!
- 🎂 Find the 3 cakes on their stands. If Chef Rosie cuts a cake into 10 strips and sells 5 of them, she has sold 0.5 = 0.50 of that cake.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
