Plant Eaters and Meat Eaters: Snack Time on the Farm
It is Snack Time on the Farm! Farmer Daisy brings hay for the cows, grass for the sheep and grain for the hens. Some animals eat only plants, some eat meat, and some eat both.
Remember: A herbivore eats only plants (cows, sheep, rabbits, horses). A carnivore eats meat (lions, wolves, cats). An omnivore eats both plants and meat (bears, pigs, chickens and people). Plant eaters have flat teeth for grinding; meat eaters have sharp, pointed teeth.
Magic trick: Herbivores eat herbs and plants. Carnivores eat carne, the Spanish word for meat. Omni means all, so omnivores eat all kinds of food.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of Farmer Daisy’s farm at snack time and find:
- 🐄 Find the 3 cows. Cows eat only plants: they are herbivores.
- 🐑 Find the 4 sheep. Sheep are herbivores too, with flat teeth for grinding grass.
- 🐔 Find the 5 hens. Hens peck at grain and also gobble bugs and worms: they are omnivores.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
