Millie & Biscuit

Food Chains: The Sunny Meadow

In the Sunny Meadow, the Sun shines on the clover, rabbits nibble the clover, and bluebirds watch from a branch. Zoe follows the energy from one living thing to the next: that is a food chain.

Remember: Every food chain starts with the Sun. Plants make their own food from sunlight, so they are producers. Animals eat plants or other animals, so they are consumers. Decomposers, like mushrooms and worms, turn fallen leaves back into soil. The arrows point to who eats: Sun → clover → rabbit → fox.

Magic trick: Read the arrow as “is eaten by”: clover → rabbit means the clover is eaten by the rabbit.

Seek and Find

Look carefully at the picture of the Sunny Meadow and find:

  • ☀️ Find the Sun. Every food chain starts here.
  • 🐰 Find the 3 rabbits. They eat the clover, so they are consumers.
  • 🍄 Find the 5 mushrooms. Mushrooms are decomposers: they turn old leaves and wood back into soil.
  • 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
