Right Angles: Lily's Treehouse
Lily’s Treehouse is full of square corners: square windows, a rectangle door and a ladder whose rungs meet the rails just so. A square corner has a special name: a right angle.
Remember: A right angle is a square corner. It measures exactly 90 degrees, written 90°. Two lines that meet at a right angle are perpendicular. In drawings, a right angle is often marked with a tiny square in its corner.
Magic trick: The corner of a sheet of paper is a perfect right angle. Hold it in a corner: if it fits exactly, the corner is 90°.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of Lily’s Treehouse and find:
- 🪟 Find the square windows on the treehouse. There are 4, each with 4 right angles, so 4 × 4 = 16 right angles.
- 🪜 Find the ladder against the tree. It has 6 rungs. Each rung meets the rails at a square corner, so the rungs are perpendicular to the rails.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
