Acute and Obtuse: The Summer Fair
At the Summer Fair, Zoe and Mia sell folding paper fans. Open a fan just a little and it makes a small, pointy acute angle. Spread it wide and it makes a big, wide-open obtuse angle.
Remember: An acute angle is smaller than a right angle: less than 90°. An obtuse angle is bigger than a right angle but smaller than a straight line: between 90° and 180°. Exactly 90° is a right angle.
Magic trick: Acute sounds like “a cute” little angle: small and pointy. Obtuse is wide open, like a great big yawn!
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Summer Fair and find:
- 🪭 Find the fans opened just a little on the front table. There are 4. Each makes a small, pointy angle, less than a right angle: an acute angle.
- 🎐 Find the fans opened wide at the back of the stall. There are 3. Each opens wider than a square corner but not flat: an obtuse angle.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
