Carrying Ones into Tens: The Bunny Farm Market
Welcome to the Bunny Farm Market! Farmer Daisy sells baskets of carrots, crates of apples and big round pumpkins. When the ones add up to 10 or more, ten of them squeeze together into one ten and hop over to the tens.
Remember: 36 + 28: the ones make 6 + 8 = 14. Write the 4 and carry the 1 ten. The tens make 3 + 2 + 1 = 6. So 36 + 28 = 64.
Magic trick: Ten ones make a ten! Write the little carried 1 on top of the tens, so you can’t forget to add it.
Seek and Find
Look carefully at the picture of the Bunny Farm Market and find:
- 🥕 Find the baskets of carrots. 2 rows of 3: 3 + 3 = 6 baskets.
- 🍎 Find the crates of apples. There are 4 crates. If each crate holds 25 apples, two crates hold 25 + 25 = 50 apples: 5 + 5 ones make 10, so carry 1 ten!
- 🎃 Find the pumpkins. Count them: 5 pumpkins in a row.
- 🐱 Millie and her kitten Biscuit are hiding in every picture. Can you spot them?
